Fall is finally here, and in San Diego, folks are looking to enjoy some great seasonal traditions.
When you think of great places to be during fall, San Diego might not be the first destination that springs to mind, but the city celebrates the arrival of fall every year with festivals, fairs, and lots of great seasonal cultural events.
Take a look at these 5 great things to do in San Diego in the Fall…
1) Visit La Jolla Cove
With all the warm days and sunshine the fall brings to San Diego, it’s the perfect time of year to visit La Jolla Cove.
Make your way to Shell Beach, this little beach has a good tide pool area at low tide. It is at the south end of Ellen Browning Scripps Park in La Jolla at the bottom of the small cement stairway. Keep an eye out for Seal Rock Preserve, a big rock offshore where seals and sea lions come to rest and sun themselves.

2) Gaslamp Quarter Fall Back Festival
Be sure you check out the Gaslamp Quarter Fall Back Festival.
It’s a three block celebration of San Diego’s wild west heritage and history. Enjoy some old west nostalgia as the neighborhood transforms into the San Diego of Wyatt Earp, complete with traditional blacksmith demonstrations and even panning for gold.
Are you an amateur competitive eater? If that describes you, loosen your belt and enter the spaghetti, pie, and ice cream eating contests.
There will also be lots of live entertainment, children’s arts and crafts, and lots of great food (that you don’t have to scarf down).
3) San Diego Beer Week
San Diego is ground zero for the craft beer scene (sure, it’s everywhere these days, but nobody does it like us). There are so many beer events during SDBW that it would take all day to list them.
It’s a county wide affair that celebrates the city’s award winning craft brews, breweries, and pubs. If you like a good craft beer, don’t miss this.

Or if you do, at least plan on making it next year.
4) Del Mar Harvest Festival
Don’t miss the Harvest Festival at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
It’s one of the country’s largest arts and gifts shows, and includes gourmet food samples, tons of kid friendly activities, great live music, and more than 300 artists and craftspeople selling unique handmade goods.
You might also like some of the best beaches in Del Mar.
5) Encinitas Fall Festival
Enjoy an old fashioned fall festival in the idyllic seaside town of Encinitas. Mom and dad can enjoy a cold craft brew in the beer garden while the kids enjoy the rides.
The Encinitas Fall Festival has over 450 booths featuring arts and crafts and two stages for live entertainment along historic Highway 101. It’s the perfect place to enjoy some vintage surf culture while celebrating the changing season.

6) Julian Apple Days Festival
Head out to the country side and discover the Julian Apple Days Festival. Julian is just beautiful this time of year. It’s one of the best places to experience fall, as the air gets crisp and the leaves change colors… and best of all, its time to enjoy some of the worlds best apples.
Julian apples won the prestigious Wilder Medal, the highest award given by the American Pomological Society and you can enjoy them in many forms. Fresh pies, ciders, dried, fresh, and our favorite juice.
Julian Apple Days is no longer a single day event but a full two-month celebration with a variety of daily activities.
There’s plenty of free parking for the Apple Days Festival available at Menghini Winery, located at the end of Farmer Road, about 2 miles out of downtown Julian

7) Bates Nut Farm and Pumpkin Patch
Why do visitors love the Bates Nut Farm? Perhaps it’s the beautiful setting, the picnic and park areas, the farm zoo, or the casual, down home environment. Or maybe it’s the reminder of simpler times and childhood memories.
During Fall, over 50 years of fall traditions and memories have been created at the Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch. Family and friends enjoy the tractor hayrides, straw maze, petting corral, Snows Pony Rides, and tons of pumpkins!
Grab a wheelbarrow and pick from a variety of pumpkins: Big Macs, Ghost, Cinderella, Jack O’ Lantern, minis, squash, gourds and other fall décor. In addition, weekends at Bates include live entertainment from 12:00 -3:00, BBQ, kettle corn, food trucks, rock climb, bounce, slide and other family friendly events.
Stop at the store on the way out where shoppers can choose from fresh, delicious nuts, candies, dried fruits, chocolates, homemade fudge and gourmet delights.
