Founded in 1886 by developers Elisha Babcock and Hampton Story for a mere $110,000, Coronado was home to little more than rabbits and quail before the men planted trees, designed lots, dug a waterway, and constructed a power plant. They would go on to build a resort that would be the “talk of the western world.”

Coronado enjoys spectacular California weather, with an average temperature of seventy degrees and an average of ten inches of rain annually.

There is a wide variety of fantastic places to live in within the community.  There’s Coronado Village with its diverse styles of homes within walking distance of downtown. Coronado Shores, located just south of Hotel Del Coronado, runs parallel to Coronado Beach and offers views of the San Diego skyline and sailboats in Glorietta Bay. Coronado Cays offers upscale homes, many with boat slips, just ten miles from downtown San Diego.

Coronado Beach has been ranked as America’s number one beach by Stephen Leatherman, director of Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research. South Beach is adjacent to a navy training facility, and beachgoers can sometimes see Navy SEALS training in the distance. Central Beach has one and a half miles of white sands to play in, overlooked by the mansions of Ocean Boulevard. North Beach is a gathering spot for surfers, bonfire enthusiasts, and is a leash-free play area for dogs.

There is a lot to offer in this peaceful little town, off the beach as well. Tour the shops and boutiques or take your time at any of the fabulous restaurants.  Take in a show at the myriad of live entertainment venues, or get outside and do some biking through the neighborhoods and along the great beaches. There’s also world-class golf and tennis for the more athletic residents and plenty of camping and hiking for the outdoors enthusiast.
