Carmel Valley Neighborhood History

 

Formed in 1975, by the City of San Diego, Carmel Valley is a new community. The Carmel Valley name originates from the Carmelite Sisters of Mercy who in 1905 established a monastery and a dairy farm in the vicinity.

In 1974, the community began with the name “North City West” due to its location with San Diego. Not until the 1990s was it renamed Carmel Valley.
