Roseville Real Estate Spotlight History


Named after its developer, Louis Rose who purchased the area in 1866. A true San Diego pioneer, Rose built a wharf, laid out the streets, and erected a hotel. For many years, Roseville was an independent city from San Diego.

Portuguese fishing boat owners and fishermen settled in Roseville. In fact, the Portuguese still maintain a large community here. Locals call the area “Tunaville” recognizing the large Portuguese tuna fishing fleet based here.

Saint Agnes Catholic Church hosts the annual “Festa do Espirito Santo” (Holy Spirit Feast) since 1910 as a Portuguese religious festival. Saint Agnes also conducts services in Portuguese two time a month. Avenida de Portugal is a street recognizing this large community in Roseville.

Cabrillo Recreation Center run by the city parks department. Yelp provides a few reviews. It offers:

USS Midway Museum offers plenty of World War II history along with one of the country’s longest-serving aircraft carriers. The museum contains 25 restored airplanes, 60 exhibits, and two flight simulators. A self-guided audio tour narrated by actual Midway sailors provides plenty of interesting historical points. Visit the Midway’s flight control, sleeping quarters, engine room, jail, and post office.

Coronado Bridge opened in 1969 stretching 2 miles connecting Coronado Island with San Diego. Contains 5 lanes for vehicles to travel in both directions.    

Cabrillo National Monument a historical landmark honoring Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo who discovered San Diego Bay in 1542. Since the early 1900s, this half-acre of land became a monument. Includes an adjoining park along with the Point Loma Lighthouse with wildlife and tide pools.
